Your Happy Homestead

Happy New Year, friends!
The dawn of a new year brings a sense of renewal and optimism, of fresh starts and excitement of what is to come.
If you purchased a home in 2018, you may be deep into home renovations or continuing to unpack and pick out furniture, but there is one more piece of business to take care of as you make your new house into your home.
Now is the time to file for your residential homestead exemption. What exactly does that mean? This exemption lowers the taxable value of your home. For example, if your home is appraised at $100,000, and you qualify for a $25,000 exemption, you would pay property taxes as if the value of your home is $75,000.
Filing your homestead exemption is free and easy. Click here and follow the instructions from the Tarrant Appraisal District. Don't be fooled by any letters received from other parties that ask you to pay a fee for this service - it is easy to do and doesn't cost any more than a postage stamp.
If you have any other questions about the homestead exemption or any other real estate needs, let me know. I'd be happy to help. Until then, happy savings, homeowner!
